Barry Jaeckel (born
February 14,
1949) is an
American professional golfer who played on the
PGA Tour and the
Champions Tour.
Jaeckel was born in
Los Angeles, and is the son of actor
Richard Jaeckel. He attended
Santa Monica Junior College, turned professional in 1971, and joined the PGA Tour in 1975.
Jaeckel played in 515 PGA Tour events from 1975–1995; he'd over two dozen top-10 finishes including a win at the 1978
Tallahassee Open and a 2nd at the 1981
Tournament Players Championship, which he lost in a playoff to
Raymond Floyd. His best finish in a
major was T-28 at the 1976
U.S. Open. He played in Europe before joining the PGA Tour, winning the
Open de France in 1972, joining
Walter Hagen and
Byron Nelson as the only Americans ever to win this event. He holds the lowest-under-par winning score at this event — 23-under-par 265.
After reaching the age of 50 in February 1999, Jaeckel joined the
Senior PGA Tour. He lives in
Palm Desert, California.
